The Matt Pridgyn Case Study: 2.5M Views and 3 Sold-Out Shows in 70 Days

A breakdown of the 70-day build that took an electronic act from zero Mainland presence to three sold-out China shows.

Matt Pridgyn — electronic / progressive house — had no Mainland China presence when we started. No Douyin account, no streaming history on Chinese DSPs, no fan base to speak of in the region. The objective was specific: establish him as a localized electronic act in Mainland China, not a Western import that happened to show up on someone's algorithm.

The Build

  • Launched a localized Douyin account with subtitled performance clips optimized for retention, not just translated captions.
  • Ran city polls and demand comment threads to find out where interest was concentrated before committing to any tour plans.
  • Built a WeChat fan group for direct fan capture, segmented by city from day one.
  • Activated streaming pushes across 150+ Mainland DSPs to build a real, verifiable streaming history.

None of these ran in isolation. The Douyin growth fed the WeChat group. The WeChat group's city data informed which streaming markets to push hardest. The streaming history became the proof point for outreach to promoters. Each piece of the infrastructure made the next one more effective.

The Numbers

In 70 days: 2.5M Douyin views, 6,000+ followers built, 100k+ likes, and 3 China show offers received directly as a result of the localized build. All 3 shows sold out.

Why It Worked

The build was localized, not translated — content made for how Douyin audiences actually watch and share, not a reformatted version of what was already working elsewhere. City polling happened before booking decisions, not after, so touring followed evidence instead of hope. And the WeChat group converted passive Douyin viewers into a direct, owned channel that could actually be sold to.

The result wasn't luck. It was the same six-part infrastructure — localized content, Douyin growth, RED credibility, WeChat capture, streaming conversion, and touring leverage — running end to end in under three months. That's the model. Matt's case study is what it looks like when every piece of it fires at once.
